A6 precision ground flat stock tool steel is an air hardening tool steel with higher manganese and lower chromium and carbon than A2, offering moderate wear resistance and toughness. It combines the low-temperature heat treatment of oil-hardening steels with the low distortion of air-hardening steels. A6 offers good dimensional stability, high toughness, and intermediate wear resistance. Applications include shear blades, punches, lamination dies, blanking dies, forming dies, trimming dies, chuck jaws, mandrels, and gauges.
